Still working at it!
We are still working on our fence. David did get the last post holes dug today for our orchard. So that is great. Next week we will hopefully get the rest of the trees cut for our fence and before we do that, get the rest of the fencing up around the garden. We have killed 15 meat chickens and two ducks and have them in the freezer. So that will also help with less chickens being around to eat my plants when I replant them. There is still time to get a garden in for the season. Some of the plantings will be for a fall garden. But that's ok. I had planned on planting a fall garden anyways. Now it will be my main garden. The summer plants don't have a lot of time left to produce really well for a bountyful harvest. But that's ok. (Less work to do in the kitchen canning it. :) ) I think the sadest part about my gardening experience this year is that Leslie, Heather, and Kari are having a bad year too. That is a bummer. But things can turn around on us and we can still have a successful garden. Here's hoping.

I think the fact that Leslie, Kari and I are trying to garden is the best part of the year. I think it is time for me to take some pictures of my garden. I'm quite proud of it.
Some of my plants are doing great. I still need to get some corn into the ground though. I have one corn plant right now, but that's not going to do me any good, seeing as to how it needs several to get any good pollination. Oh well. I can still try.
I think it is cool we are trying to garden, I need to go the store and just buy some established plants. I do still have seeds, but they get eaten if they do sprout so maybe big plants won't get eaten... Fall harvest sounds like a good idea, I will try that too I think!
Glad to hear that the wandering mama came back with some chicks. That's cool. By the way, I killed most of my tomatoes. I have 15 Better Boys and two Sugary tomatoes. Hopefully they survive (and the peppers too). Everything else seems to be doing well. Maybe I'll post pictures. Follow the trend my sisters set.
I think you need to post a new blog Mom, or Papa. Somebody. If nothing else, copy and paste from the chicken blog. Hope the butcher of them goes well. I was wondering if the rooster trying to crow is really as bad as Barbara Kingsolver makes it sound in Animal, Vegetable, Miracle (which I finished this week, by the way).
